Why we make good even better
We rescue valuable by-products and use them to make delicious and nutritious food for you. And we have good reason to do so!
Real responsibility
It used to be common practice in beer brewing to use the byproducts as animal feed. Today, due to numerous restrictions, this is becoming increasingly difficult. So, off they go to the biogas plant.
Previous processing
Because we at the Locher Brewery in Appenzell have learned to view our byproducts as raw materials, this is a thorn in our side. It simply can’t be right that tons of valuable byproducts – and thus good nutrients and fiber – are just wasted. If you’re already at the source, you have to live up to your ecological responsibility and truly embrace sustainability, we thought. And do it properly!
Scrumptious sustainability
Like busy worker bees we got straight to experimenting with new sustainable solutions to ultimately reduce the amount of food waste coming out of the brewing process. To give our by-products the value they deserve by feeding them back into the natural cycle as delicious food we could all enjoy. Pioneering stuff! We never lost sight of our goal. And we created products – like pizza and chips – that are genuinely sustainable but still taste incredible.
Passion project
Recycling our by-products made logical sense to us, but it meant more to us than just that. Led by our heads and our hearts, we set up brewbee as our own food upcycling brand. Because this is serious business! Buzzing about like “brewing bees” (that’s where the name “brewbee” comes from), we’re still working hard to come up with lots of innovative ideas for new products that are delicious and sustainable.
